Rekha, in a red sari, holding her young child

Stand with Rekha.
Help slavery-proof her whole region.

Where Rekha lives, slavery isn’t rare.
Families have been enslaved for generations, and those who aren’t are one emergency away.

We bet on something Bold:

Slavery-proofing a whole region instead of one village at a time. It worked!
In our first region, 12,753 people now have the schools, rights training, and job skills
to keep slavery out for good.
That’s slavery-proofing.

Rekha’s region of 19,826 people is next. Help us get there.

People coming to freedom

A trafficker offered Rekha $100 for her 10-year-old daughter

She refused. Now she’s afraid he’ll come back.

Rekha’s family is still trapped in slavery. Voices4Freedom is working across the surrounding villages so families like hers can get free and stay free.

Children go to school. Parents learn their rights, access government programs, and develop job skills. Neighbors organize to recognize trafficking and protect their communities.

Rekha with her children

It starts with a school.

In the villages where the most families are trapped in slavery, a Schools4Freedom school opens first. For many children, it’s their first time in a classroom.

538 children are learning in 14 Schools4Freedom across the region.
Before enrolling, 385 were forced to work instead of attending school.
Now they’re catching up to grade level.

The school becomes the heart of the village. Together, families find the courage to stand up to the people who enslave them and demand the freedom they’ve always been owed.

What does it take to slavery-proof a region?

In rural Uttar Pradesh, generations of families have been trapped in slavery working in agriculture, brick kilns, and mining.

We started slavery-proofing entire regions because preventing slavery beats ending it after it takes hold.

We bring these tools to every village in a region, so people build freedom in their own communities and strength in the communities around them. Schools and job skills give people more choices. Rights training helps them claim government support and protections. Through self-help groups and community vigilance committees, people organize, solve shared problems, and build the collective strength to get free and stay free.

Slavery held generations. It doesn’t have to hold the next.

Our first region of 12,753 people is now slavery-proofed, with the knowledge, skills, and community strength to sustain that freedom.

Now 19,826 people in the next region are building that same strength. Rekha is one of them.

If people can free themselves where slavery has been entrenched for generations, their success can show others a way forward.

Here’s what it takes to build lasting freedom.
These are just a few examples of the real costs behind our work to slavery-proof an entire region.

$641

A Solar Light for the Village.

A place for children to study after dark. A place for neighbors to gather. Light that helps people see snakes and makes shared spaces safer at night. One solar light makes a difference to the whole village.

$324

One Person Free. For Good.

On average, what lasting freedom costs for one person: school for the kids, a fair income, and the ID cards that unlock government programs they were always entitled to.

$20

School Supplies for One Student.

Twenty bucks funds three years worth of schools supplies for one student. You’ll provide the backpack, the teacher will fill it with lessons, and the student will fill it with hopes and dreams.

“Put simply, Voices4Freedom stops slavery, in the lives of individuals and even in whole communities.”
